Cyber Monday: The online holiday shopping day

Did you know that the first official Cyber Monday occurred in the year 2005? In 2004 people noticed the increase in online sales after Black Friday. I did not know that Cyber Monday is older than Small Business Saturday, but not nearly as long as Black Friday.

If you noticed, the Black Friday advertisements, a lot of stores are not waiting until Friday to begin the shopping season. Some of the stores now open their doors the evening of Thanksgiving. A lot of online stores took their cue from brick and mortar stores and began their sales early.

According to Inc.’s online magazine, you can find online discounts throughout the month of December. Some of these online discounts began early November. If you type in Cyber Monday, you will see a lot websites dedicated to Cyber Monday discounts. Stores like Target and Amazon offer cyber Monday previews or they couple the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Where will you shop this weekend?

Small Business shopping

A lot of people think that Small Business Saturday is an alternative to Black Friday. Avoiding the traffic, the mass of people, and the lines are great reasons to shop Saturday instead of Friday.

2011 is the second year of the Small Business Saturday shopping day. More people are familiar with this shopping day and strategize their Thanksgiving shopping weekend accordingly. Small businesses offer discounts during the Saturday shopping event. American Express offers a $25 credit to its card holders who shop at registered small businesses and spend $25 or more.

If you own a small business, you can register to participate. The Small Business Saturday website has material you can use to promote your small business during this shopping day. I’ve watched the small business ticker all day. More and more people like the Facebook page and pledge to shop on Saturday, November 26th.  Find small businesses near your TriBridge apartment. Don’t pay a fortune on your holiday lights

The incredible machine lightsI’ve decorated my apartment with holiday lights a couple of years in a row. I made sure that I turned the lights on when I came home and turned them off when I left the apartment. Some safety procedures state that you should also turn them off when you go to bed. If you are not sure about frayed wires, the lights could start a fire.

If you want to save energy and money while using your holiday lights, ecofriendly websites suggest that you purchase LED holiday lights in your apartment. LED lights are safer because they do not produce as much heat as other lights. LED lights also save energy. If you purchase mini LED holiday lights, you will save more energy. If you must replace your holiday lights, purchasing LED lights could save you money years later. The LED lights lasts longer than traditional incandescent lights.

If you replace your holiday lights, recycle the old lights. The HolidayLeds website offers free recycling.

Are you tired of waiting for the NBA 2011-2012 season to begin?

ABA professional basketball

It is the middle of November and the NBA 2011-2012 season hasn’t begun. Most professional basketball fans are becoming tired of waiting on the lockout to end. Are you one of these frustrated fans?

If you are waiting for the NBA season to begin, do not worry. You can still watch professional basketball in your city or a nearby city. The ABA season began this month. The ABA is the American Basketball Association. Last week, the North Dallas Vandals defeated the Texas Fuel. Jacksonville, Durham, Nashville, Dallas, and Atlanta are all cities with ABA expansion teams. If you live near one of these cities you can still watch individuals pick and roll. Three pointers can still rain from the perimeter, and balls are still dunked through the rim.

Would you like to watch the stunning athleticism of professional athletes for prices as low as five or six dollars? Will you attend a game?

Deep Fried Turkey- Not the safest holiday preparation

It is easy for me to plan holiday meals. I have the same meal during each holiday. Those days are the few times of the year when I allow myself days of unhealthy delicious food. I love fried turkey, but I generally find someone to prepare it for me. It is a safety hazard near homes and definitely in an apartment community.

I realize that the oil in the turkey might not be the healthiest choice for meal. I need to change my holiday eating habits.
