throw pillow

decorate your apartment with fun and homemade throw pillows. You'll feel accomplished and stylish.

More and more people are hopping on the DIY movement. While you may not be able to be as industrious as Young House Love in your rental space, you can still use plenty of DIY projects to customize your apartment. One quick, easy, and affordable way is to make throw pillows to accent your space. throw pillows add color, texture, and personality to a room, whether they’re placed on a sofa or lounging on your bed. You can make them in masculine or feminine style, so they’ll fit any decor motif you have going.

To make a throw pillow, you’ll first need to be sure that you have the materials on-hand: Thread and a needle or a threaded sewing machine (the machine will give you the best results) and the fabric of your choice should be close by. You’ll also need a pillow insert. You can get all of these materials at a sewing store, such as Jo-Ann’s, or at a hobby store. Use a tutorial, like this helpful one from Sew Alluring, to sew your pillows. Throw them on the couch or the bed, and you’re done!

Throw the Perfect Mardi Gras Party in Your Apartment

mardi gras mask

Make your own Mardi Gras masks, or set up a "mask making table" for guests to join in on the fun!

Who doesn’t love a great excuse to entertain? Your spacious apartment is a perfect locale for you and your guests to get together. Mardi Gras is perhaps one of the largest parties in the nation–Even when you can’t make it to New Orleans for the authentic bash, you can bring a little bit of the fun home with a Mardi Gras party in your apartment.

The first thing you’ll want to do to celebrate Mardi Gras right is to decorate. Use the traditional colors of green, gold, and purple with paper lanterns, streamers, and other affordable decor items. avoid elements like glitter, which could extend the time it takes for you to clean up once the guests have gone. Try to find a fun and upbeat jazz CD to have playing for guests.

The next essential part of the party is the food. Consider a broil, jambalaya cups, or mini shrimp po-boys to fit the occasion. Red beans and rice are also a must! Put them into little Mardi Gras “shooters” for approachable finger foods with less mess. For drinks have one signature cocktail, like a Hurricane, as well as beer available. Don’t forget a nice selection of non-alcoholic options as well.

If you want to add a special touch to your get together, make your own Mardi Gras masks! It’s a mini masquerade in your apartment–what could be more fun?

Pet Safety Tips for the Holiday Season in Your Apartment

Don't let your pets miss out on holiday cheer, but be sure to protect them from holiday hazards in your pet-friendly TriBridge apartment.

Many of the TriBridge apartment communities, spanning from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL to Mt Juiet, TN, are pet-friendly. We love having both our two legged and four legged residents in our communities; pets add a great deal to your life, and studies have even shown that pets can help us live longer and reduce our stress levels. While you may love sharing various aspects of the community with your pet through walks around the apartments and allowing them to sit by you on the sofa, you’ll want to be careful with how much you share with them during the holidays. The holidays are a time to have fun and enjoy life, but they can also be hazardous to our canine and feline friends. Here are a few ways you can protect your pet during the holiday season:

  • Did you decorate with a tree this year? The water in the stand, the electricity from the lights, and glass and small pieces from ornaments can all be hazardous to your pet. The tree should be an off-limits zone for your cats and dogs. Use a baby gate to block them or supervise your pets whenever they’re in the same room as the tree.
  • Foods are typically richer during the holiday season, with plenty of fat and sugar. Most of these foods are not good for your pet, and some can even be poisonous (onions, certain greens, etc). Make sure guests don’t feed your pet scraps from their plate, and be cautious about what you share yourself.
  • Holiday plants, like mistletoe and poinsettias, are beautiful, but not pet friendly. Keep them out of pets’ reach, or use faux plants instead of the real deal.
