Far too often, people think Florida is nothing but sunshine, oranges, and Disney World. But with a little exploration, you’ll soon discover that there’s so much more to this state.
Sure, there are plenty of beaches in and around Florida, but the beaches of Ponte Vedra seem to top them all. Ponte Vedra’s beaches boast some of the highest sand dunes in the state, at an impressive 40-feet, and lead the way to a shimmering shoreline for hours of fun in the sun.
Golfers love going to The Players Championship! TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach offers two PGA Tour courses, practice facilities, opportunities for instruction and learning, and more, plus fantastic dining options.
For even more fun, we suggest Adventure Landing. This theme park features a variety of attractions, ranging from miniature golf and laser tag to go-karts, batting cages, a waterpark, and a video arcade. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon or the entire day with family or friends.
Did you know that Florida is home to the oldest city in the U.S.? St. Augustine was founded by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain in 1565. The city is home to a charming historic district with cobblestone streets, a variety of cafes and restaurants, shops, and a winery, as well as interesting attractions like the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and Fort Matanzas (shown below).
For outdoor fun in the Jacksonville area, we highly recommend Hanna Park. This nationally recognized park offers beaches for sunning, swimming, surfing, and more, as well as picnic areas, campsites, a water playground for kids, and a fresh water lake for fishing and kayaking.
If you’re a runner or walker, Florida provides wonderful opportunities for you to join up with like-minded individuals to enjoy a run or walk throughout the year! The Gate River Run is the largest 15k race in the U.S. with over 20,000 participants. And there’s also 26.2 with Donna Mission, which includes a marathon, half marathon, relay, and 5k race with all proceeds supporting breast cancer research and care.
Are you looking for things to do in Tampa? There’s no shortage of fun and interesting things here, either. Busch Gardens is filled with attractions for all ages, including thrilling roller coasters rides, interaction with wild animals, and live shows. If you are looking to cool off, head over to Adventure Island where you can splash around on slides or in a wave pool, or just enjoy the sun from your own cabana.
For a culturally diverse experience, hop on over to Ybor City, a town best described as “a feast for the senses.” As Tampa’s Latin Quarter, you can enjoy cuisine from Spanish, Cuban, Italian, Greek, and French restaurants, as well as shopping at some very eclectic boutiques and art galleries. But our favorite aspects of Ybor City are the live music at night and the aroma of fresh Cuban coffee you’ll smell early in the morning! If you want to take a break from the Florida sun, The Florida Aquarium is just the place to do it. The exhibits feature animals in natural settings, including sharks, sea turtles, moray eels, otters, alligators, and more. The Wild Dolphin Cruise is another highlight of the aquarium, giving visitors the opportunity to see some of the hundreds of wild dolphins that are native to Tampa Bay.
Sports fans in Tampa can enjoy an evening of baseball at Tropicana Field while watching the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are currently ranked third in the American League East!
